Foreward

With the grace of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee the second edition of the summarised version of the Gurmat Rehat Maryada/Code of Conduct has been completed. This edition is aimed at a global audience, for Sikhs and non-Sikhs to get an insight into what the Sikh Way of Life entails. The Code of Conduct may seem harsh and very hard to put into practice but it is an ideal way of living that very few gifted souls realise. If one were to put all the teachings into practice then self-realisation is attained and abode with God is guaranteed.

The second edition is by no means perfect and I urge the readers to give us their comments and questions by posting to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I have tried my best to make the document as simple as possible and minimise jargon, so all levels of reader may easily understand the path of the Guru. We have added two annexes, one on how to prepare Karah Parshad and the second is a glossary of the terms used throughout. I urge the Sangat to forgive my shortcomings in translation. The translators and sevadars who helped in completing this task, hope the readers will benefit from the additional information that has been added.

I would like to thank Baba Takhur Singh Jee for blessing me with leading on the translation of this tract and would like to give a brief mention and thanks to all the Singhs that helped in completing this work. First and foremost I would like to thank Giani Surjit Singh Jee ’Sodhi/Bairagi’ who has been a source of knowledge throughout the compilation of both the first and second editions. Other Singhs who helped with translations and editing were Giani Davinder Singh Jee (Batala), Giani Jatinder Singh Jee, Giani Jangbir Singh Jee, Giani Baldev Singh Jee Sodhi, Giani Kuldeep Singh Jee Bhagat, Bhai Baldeep Singh Jee, Bhai Sukhraj Singh and Bhai Harpartap Singh Jee.
